what oil to use on vwr mkv gti foam filter

  • #ane

I'm looking to get a drib-in filter since I am installing a downpipe this weekend :D

My question to you guys is which air filter do you recommend and why?

As far as the different brands go I know April, AFE, and K&Northward all accept options. I too have heard there are some which are oiled and some which are dry. Which i would you guys recommend and why?

Cheers

I employ a Grand&North.

Previously oiled filters got a bad rap because earlier engines uses a MAF sensor instead of the MAP sensor nosotros use at present. If yous over oiled, or didnt permit information technology dry correctly and oil got on the MAF information technology ruined it and you had to replace it. So everyone simply went with dry filters.

At present that nosotros have a MAP sensor this isnt an issue and so go with what you like. I like the power to clean and reuse the oiled filters instead of ownership new expensive dry ones all the time.

I apply a Yard&N.

Previously oiled filters got a bad rap considering earlier engines uses a MAF sensor instead of the MAP sensor we use now. If you lot over oiled, or didnt permit it dry correctly and oil got on the MAF it ruined information technology and y'all had to replace it. So anybody but went with dry filters.

At present that nosotros have a MAP sensor this isnt an event and then go with what y'all similar. I like the ability to clean and reuse the oiled filters instead of buying new expensive dry ones all the time.

+1 (for explaining that we have no MAF sensor). That is where oiled filters mainly become their bad rap from. Folks would over oil or not let them dry properly earlier using with a MAF. This is not a business concern for us.

From my understanding and study on the subject, oiled filters will flow slightly better and will likely final a bit longer due to the courser material design. Oiled will also demand to be cleaned more often. The high performance dry filters will filter slightly meliorate, only catamenia slightly less per square inch of filter media. If yous alive in a dusty expanse or drive dirt roads, then I would go dry. I decided to go oiled for max performance. My k&n works great and still looks new subsequently 20k. I'll make clean it every 20k or so to keep max performance, but it could go longer than that if weather condition aren't dusty.

Stock or Mann because they are better. ;)
Nearly any aftermarket filter stuff advertised as 'uprade' is actually worse,
as they lack sufficient filtration properties. That said, they don't even give
whatever gain in performance. If you're little pedantic swap the OE filter annually.
There'due south absolutely no reason to suffer from sleeplessness about air filters. ;)

.

Absolutely, you are no doubt sacrificing filtration adequacy for less resistance to flow. Here is the pop study that is often trotted out when when folks merits that staying with the stock filter is all-time. If you are staying stock, I would agree 100%. As you lot tin can see in the study, a K&Northward is worse at stopping dirt, there is no doubt. Merely, the resistance to menstruum is amend with the 1000&N they tested with. Throttle response is ameliorate due to less resistance to period (also see initial resistance to flow in their graph). I can easily feel the difference. This is enough for me to cede a fleck of dirt for a piffling performance. Volition I make more than top stop power? Probably not much. I brand sure I change the oil every v-7k and clean my filter ahead of schedule to recoup for the actress clay I am letting into the motor.

Speed density motor, information technology does not matter if its oiled or dry out, no MAF to foul upward with oil.

I had the VWR and it worked great.
